The European Capital of Culture is an annual event of the European Union. The aim is to highlight the richness and diversity of European cultures and to promote greater mutual understanding between European citizens.

Västerbotten has a rich and varied cultural life. There is always something going on and places to see all year long.
No matter what your interests are you are certain to find something that is just right for you. The scope of the arts is very broad and is represented throughout the county. There are nearly 100 libraries, at least one in each municipality.
